Planes, trains, and automobiles - Walrus Cloudy
...now it's clear
Planes, trains, and automobiles
It's been a while since I've posted... Mat's got a job now, working 7:30 to 3:30 (approximately) at the Kansas Highway Patrol title/VIN inspection station. It pays just short of what I make at my job, so we'll finally have enough money to catch up on the bills and get some of the things we've been wanting.

Bill's got some car problems, most notably the brakes, which need all four pads replaced and probably at least two rotors (the others maybe can be turned). Also, one of the tie rods needs replacing, which would explain the evil noises when you turn the steering wheel. So, now we need to figure out how much he owes on the car, and whether it would make sense for us to fix it or trade it in. It would be nice to have a car with a back seat...

...but Mom (mine) might be giving us her car when I go down there on vacation and getting herself a new one, since they can afford it now, and the A/C is going on her current vehicle. The only problem (in additon to the A/C) is that her car has 209,000 miles, and it's a '91. A free car, however, is nothing to complain about.

I think I'll be taking the train on the way down there, if Mom's giving us the car. It's only $145 one way, and I've never been on a train before. I'm going to see if I can get Mom to spring for sleeping accomodations for me on at least one leg of the trip, so I can get free meals in the bargain, and a real (if small) bed to sleep on. The trip is going to take from 7:30 AM Saturday to 11:42 AM Monday, so I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a bed on one of those nights. :)

I'm thinking that I'll leave for Florida on Saturday, September 4th, and begin my return trip on the 12th or maybe the 13th. That'll give me one week down there, plus a few days at home to rest and relax before I return to work, probably on the 20th. I'll also have a little vacation time left over.

We're going to be opening a new bank account, since Commerce will only let us have two debit cards, even though there's three signers on the account. We're probably going with Bank of America. If any of you out there have business with them, I'd appreciate some feedback (they're great, they suck, they're so-so, whatever) before we make a final decision. One thing that I like, though, is that their website will show pending transactions before they're finalized to the balance on the account. Also, they have free online bill pay, which is something I've wanted to get started with. Writing out a whole stack of checks twice a month sucks.

I guess that's it for now. Maybe it won't be so long before I post again.

From a business stand point Bank of America sucks. I do not know about the personal.
