What's new? Stuff... - Walrus Cloudy

What's new? Stuff...
There have been some changes in my work situation since my last real entry. I'm now in training for the Commercial Collections department with Citi Cards, which handles collections on business accounts for such august entities as Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, AutoZone, Dell, Amazon.com, Tractor Supply Co., and others. These are private-label business credit cards, not Visa or MasterCard accounts.

Since the department is a recent acquisition for Citigroup, it's quite a bit more ... helter-skelter than in Consumer Collections, where I was previously. Also, they're converting these accounts to a new mainframe system next month, and the following month to a new integrated desktop system (Retail Private Label Integrated Desktop, or RPLID) which runs on Windows. I'm sure it will be an improvement over the current desktop system, which appears to function by screen-scraping a telnet session with the mainframe... and it's so, well, cheesy. That's really the only word I can come up with to describe it.

The problem is, I'm going through training now, then when they convert to the new mainframe I'll have to train again. Also, during the month while we're still waiting for the new desktop system, the current windowed application won't function... so, as far as I've been informed, we'll either need to do everything through the mainframe or use a bastard step-child of the current customer-service windowed system (i.e., not really designed for collections). When RPLID is released, we'll all have to go through training again. Yay. I just hope that the "integrated" part means that I won't need separate IDs and passwords for the LAN, ComRev, RACF, CIPS, OnDemand, FastData, and SpeedPay, like I do now. That's just what I need to log into all the systems required to handle customer calls, not counting the time-card system and e-mail. What the hell kind of login ID is "qhl.southwell robert" anyway?

I'm up already, because the batteries in three of the four smoke detectors in our apartment decided to die all at once. The chirping woke me up at 4, and since I had to be up at 6 anyway, I didn't bother trying to get back to sleep. Maybe since I've been up for a while, I can actually eat more than a bite or two for breakfast.

Mat's mom will be here tomorrow (today? something like that...) I'm not entirely sure how we're going to get through the next couple of weeks with so many people here in the apartment. I know we'll survive, though.
