Writer's Block: Crepuscular Drama
The Twilight movie comes out today. A lot of people are really excited about seeing Bella and Edward on the big screen. Others couldn't care less. Where do you fall on the issue?

I haven't read the books, so at the moment, I really don't care. However, they've been talking about it non-stop for the past two weeks on the morning radio show here in Kansas City on Mix 93.3, so I'm wondering if I should read the books and/or see the movie.

I should add that I'm not much of a fan of the typical vampire novel... I can't stand Anne Rice, but I have been reading Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson novels, and I like those.

Anyone have thoughts on the matter to share?

I haven't actually read the books, nor do I plan to see the movie (in theatres, anyway), but I have heard things ranging from "hilariously bad" to "horrific".

People have done analyses of the apparently rather strong Mormon themes in the book (because the author is Mormon); additionally I personally probably wouldn't buy it because of the Mormon->money->prop 8 connection. Um, I could probably find lolsome links if you want. There's quite a bit of humor in the rather large anti-fandom.

More objectively, the criticisms i've seen say basically that edward and bella have no personality, and that their relationship is very creepy / not ideal. Also the [spoiler] in book 4 is really gross, from what details I've seen of it.

Um I guess this could probably summed up into "I recommend against it unless you like reading bad literature to snark at it." I checked out the first book just to see what it was all about, but looked at the size of it and decided I have better ways to spend my time than reading a book I'm pretty sure I'm not going to enjoy.

Oh, but I've heard the movie is more enjoyable, mostly because they changed a lot of stuff. </ramble>
